Scrum Events
Scrum is an Agile framework that uses a set of predefined events to create regularity and minimize the need for meetings not defined in Scrum. These events are designed to ensure that the Scrum Team works collaboratively, inspects and adapts their work, and maintains a focus on delivering value. Here are the main Scrum events:
1.Sprint #
A Sprint is the foundational unit of Scrum and is a time-boxed period during which a usable and potentially releasable product increment is created. Sprints are typically one to four weeks long.
– Purpose: To create a consistent rhythm and cadence for work.
– Duration: Fixed duration, usually one to four weeks.
– Outcome: A potentially shippable product increment.
2. Sprint Planning #
Sprint Planning is the event where the work to be performed in the sprint is planned.
– Purpose: To define what can be delivered in the sprint and how that work will be achieved.
– Duration: Time-boxed to a maximum of eight hours for a one-month sprint.
– Participants: Scrum Team (Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development Team).
– Outcome: Sprint Goal, Sprint Backlog.
3. Daily Scrum #
The Daily Scrum is a short, time-boxed event held every day of the sprint to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the Sprint Backlog as necessary.
– Purpose: To synchronize activities and create a plan for the next 24 hours.
– Duration: Time-boxed to 15 minutes.
– Participants: Development Team (Product Owner and Scrum Master can attend but typically do not speak unless they are working on items in the Sprint Backlog).
– Outcome: Updated plan for the next 24 hours.
4. Sprint Review #
The Sprint Review is an event at the end of the sprint to inspect the increment and adapt the Product Backlog if needed.
– Purpose: To gather feedback and foster collaboration with stakeholders.
– Duration: Time-boxed to a maximum of four hours for a one-month sprint.
– Participants: Scrum Team and stakeholders.
– Outcome: Feedback on the increment, updated Product Backlog.
5. Sprint Retrospective #
The Sprint Retrospective is an event where the Scrum Team inspects itself and creates a plan for improvements to be enacted during the next sprint.
– Purpose: To reflect on the past sprint and identify improvements.
– Duration: Time-boxed to a maximum of three hours for a one-month sprint.
– Participants: Scrum Team.
– Outcome: Actionable improvement plan.
